I have not been able to do this where you get him down seven times in the allotted time. Any suggestions of plants or strategies?
I use this strategy to defeat him 11 times on high difficulty. Haven't failed yet:
I use caulipower, apple mortar, goldbloom and pokra and the sun bank perk in my mid range profile.
When i have enough sun i put a line of stacked ultomatos along the middle lane.

Mostly levels 5/6. None of these ideas worked for me, guess I just suck at this, lol. I’m usually very good at most of he game.

They always work ...
My strategies are 2 Moonflowers, with maximum possible Dusk-Lobbers, and Spear-Mint, Fila-Mint, Enchant-mint, and Pepper-Mint. Works like a charm. At least for me.
Try the Boss-Buster, Sun-Bank and Sun-Break if you can. If you only want one perk, I recommend Sun-Break, as you won't need the extra damage from Boss-Buster after some time, but the extra Dusk-Lobbers are worth it.
P.S. All my plants are lvl 5 or higher, so it's easier that way for me.
