I think you're partly correct with your suggestion. It's an inter-dimensional spatial rift connected to a black hole that sucks in all our cash, gems, coins, and now power mints whenever we use them. The other end of the hole spews its contents into the already overflowing EA coffers.
Oh dear, I think we have realized this just little too late as the content of our wallet seems to have passed the event horizon....
