Don't be shy to try the season pass model. If you make it reasonably priced around $20.00 to $30.00 people will buy it. You can also add incentives to entice players to purchace the pass by offering a free sticker pack on a monthly bases and in addition to that a permanent double XP modifier. Everything else from GW2 would be great in GW3. We love Rux, the community portals, infinity mode, etc. I would like to see those return along with improved singleplayer.
While I am not opposed to a season pass, be aware it would cause a few problems.
Even back in GW1 people were very opposed to a pay to win model. That means that anything put behind the season pass cannot effect the ability to play the game. Sure it can have new maps and cosmetics but, variants and alternate abilities would not be met with enthusiasm.
The second issue it fragmenting and already slim fan base. Don't get me wrong lots of people like the game, but as we have seen with both GW1 and GW2 players tend to drop off about a year after release. The community is broken up even further into PS4, XBONE and PC. (Which cannot play together.) If they were to add paid content it would fragment everyone even further, those that have the season pass and those that don't. After all, how would you feel buying the season pass only to find out that people playing for free are on the same maps as you?
Again, not opposed to it, just something to think about.
I also want to add a suggestion. (I have many thoughts on GW going forward but this is on the top of the list.) When making the rank system for GW3 don't give each variant levels. If grinding is important for game balance (though, I wouldn't mind less) return to the GW1 style of rank. To be clear, I mean one level per class not the challenge system. I understand the developer desire to see all the variants they put work into be used. However, with so many variants it is natural that they aren't all equal. This isn't just power, speed or other tangible stats. Some people like rapid fire variants, others don't, some like breath chompers, some hate them. It sucks the fun out of the game for people trying to rank knowing that any variant they master they won't see for hundreds to thousands of ranks.
My suggestion is to give each class one rank, even if it is capped at 400+. (Because we need 5600 ranks...) To encourage using variants why not make class specific challenges. Same as the board in GW2 but limited to specific classes, this way when you play as cactus it might include a vanquish 20 zombies with fire damage. This would allow players to play the variants they like with occasional challenges to use other variants. Yet, it isn't as frustrating as getting 50 levels of exp for a boring class. (And with over 100 total, there is bound to be more than one boring one.) Again, I get wanting players to love all of the developer's variant babies. But, its worse to force people who don't get along to play together. (This also comes with the bonus that variants are never mandatory. So things like Unicorn Chomper won't be complained about since they aren't needed to cap rank.)
Also, as a side note, cut the promotion system. (I am referring to entering a room and manually promoting.) Regardless of if they use the GW1 or GW2 rank system or even a new one. Just award 20,000 and a new rank plate every 10 levels gained. Leaving a group of players just to promote a character is quite frustrating. It feels like a punishment for leveling up. It is also frustrating knowing all exp after 10 is going to waste even if the character hasn't had any promotions. (I hate starting an ops mission close to 10, SO MUCH WASTED EXP 😢) It is also bothersome when me and my brother play split screen. (Thank you for split screen by the way.) Of course, we can only be in one person's backyard and the other can't promote. We could switch back and forth if it didn't take forever to connect to EA servers and then another eternity to load in the second player. I like the promotion name plates and the bonus coins but it should be automatic. (Would someone really say, nah I don't need a promotion?)
