Community Portal/Weekly Challenge Rework Idea

MY PROPOSAL:

I wish devs would change the reward system on Weekly Challenges and Communtiy Portals so that ANY mode could be played to obtain rewards.  The current reward system doesn’t encourage gamers to spend much time gaming and this would be a step in direction of resolving that issue.

WEEKLY CHALLENGE REWARDS: These should be obtainable in all modes and encourage team play:

  1. Win 5 PvP games = 10 Stars
  2. Win 10 PvP games = 20 Stars
  3. Win 20 PvP games = 40 Stars

COMMUNITY PORTALS’ REWARDS: These should be handled entirely different in that EVERYONE playing should win stars EVERY round (hear me out):

  1. Winning team = 2 Stars
  2. Losing team = 1 Star
  3. Team swappers = -1 Star (Team Swap should be removed altogether.)

OFFLINE/PvE Crowd: In order to ensure nobody is left out, we would need Private Play enabled and to count as PvP and/or Ops games to count as PvP.  Basically the PvE zones should be the only non-rewarded modes and anything that requires MULTIPLE gamers should count for multiplayer rewards.  Not saying Battle Chests and Giddy Park quests don’t deserve optimal currency rewards, too, because they do but that’s another thread altogether.  For this thread/topic, I’m only discussing Weekly Challenges and Community Portals and have long-thought difficult Battle Chests need better rewards...

PRIZE EXPLANATION: If prizes were handled as illustrated above, a gamer would have to win FIVE HUNDRED games in ONE MONTH just to obtain Rux’s top prize.  I do think Stars should be obtainable through additional outlets but believe the current setup solicits selfish gameplay as well as the need to obtain weekly awards and then return to modes we love (which, in turn, makes us resent the Weekly Challenges/modes).

In summary, we should be able to play Community Portals to obtain enough currency to win Rux’s prizes. Challenges should encourage team play and the PvE crowd should have one/two options to NOT be left out of awards.

Almost forgot: ALL currencies should be interchangeable with one another and these changes would really shine.

As we’ve said 1,000,000x, make the game fun enough and we’ll be happy to pay for goodies when we don’t have time to play for them.

@ToastedSarnie I haven't played GW2 in a while and completely forgot about the community challenges. There were always fun. The great thing was that all players were working together to reach the community goals even though they were fighting each other.
I'd love to see it added to BfN.
  • @ippig Yes, me too! I still go in regularly as I love it & most of my friends stayed with it, or tried BFN then moved back to it.

The BFN challenges / events have actually made me appreciate the GW2 ones more - where I used to dislike some of the character-specific ones, I now enjoy them thoroughly - realising in there, I'm a better player with more of the characters than I thought!!!

When we play in normal servers (TT, Mixed, Team Vanquish) and especially in GW2 at prime times of the day (the last year or so).... so many people learned the game so well normal modes didn’t provide a level playing field to try new characters.  Introduce new modes or random characters and suddenly there’s a safe environment to practice new characters.

Some of my favorite characters from GW2 (Alien Flower) I discovered I loved because of Community Portals.
