You have 7 points for using upgrades and they cost from 1 to 4 each so you can mix and match to any amount that adds up to 7 (so for example you could take two 3 point abilities and a 1 point one). You have a bunch of pretty standard ones at first and as you rank a character up they unlock more specific abilities. You get 3 slots per character so you can have 3 different builds with different upgrades and cosmetics.
