Don't think we're doing this right (I'm definitely no expert!) I bought the disk for my daughter and we loaded it on her Xbox. We have two users setup on the xbox and can use two controllers as separate players in split screen on for instance, Minecraft. When we load up PvZ to play in split screen I'm pressing X on the second controller and a message just comes up saying "unavailable". I'm not really understanding some of the terminology on this thread and I'm not sure what we're doing wrong why we can't get split screen to work. It's like PvZ doesn't recognise the second controller so won't enable split screen. It's the only reason we bought the game and it seems like this is a major issue - can anyone take pity on a poor technically challenged Mum and help me to set it up? Thank you!!!
@Aliflower01I'm afraid I'm a poor technically challenged mum as well, but I'm Xbox (a lot of the previous instructions relate to Playstation I think) & play split-screen occasionally with my son as well, so I'll do my best! 🤣
I'm assuming you have a primary account as an adult which is linked to your Xbox Live / Live Gold account & that your daughter has a linked family account (or possibly the other way round, I guess).
If the second account has never played online games before (& if I remember right, Minecraft can be played both on & offline with two people), you probably need to start by checking the account is set up to play online games. Log into the profile & select Privacy Settings. I'm not 100% sure whether "Child Defaults" allows it or not - we use the "Custom" option, so I can't double-check the options.
Within Child Defaults or ESPECIALLY if going in through Custom, you will want to go through EVERY menu option to double-check your daughter's acc is set up however securely you want, regarding what she can access & what people can see etc, but the menu option "Communication & Multiplayer" is the one you need to check for whether they can play online - it should be on "Allow".
Assuming that's ok, the primary account needs be signed into Xbox and to load the game. Go all the way into the game, then turn the second controller on & hold X (the blue X not the Xbox X) to join. It can be a bit slow, but should join ok at this point.
Let us know if that works for you - fingers crossed!!!

Thank you so much for trying to explain! It's all this account stuff that has me stumped, there seem to be so many different names for things and I haven't got a clue! I only know we can use both controllers to play other Xbox games and we can't get it to work on this - I'm confused with EA accounts, Xbox accounts, profiles etc etc. We've tried looking at settings but everything seems ok. I think I need someone who understands this stuff to have a look - it all looks Greek to me! ;-)
- 6 years ago@Aliflower01 Aww, no problem - it is all a bit confusing! Hope you get it sorted 🤞
@iluminatethesky or @EA_David
Apologies for tagging, but if you have time & can think of any way of clarifying things for @Aliflower01 that would be lovely of you 😊- 6 years ago
Thank you! Sorry I'm not 15 any more!!! 😃
