Nope. I spent a lot of time working my way up to max just to get him and it'll be really annoying to just have him given away for those that didn't try to work for it. i can understand there are those who have never played the first game that probably want him but i say just let him be available through hero showcases only but not just given to everyone. at least not anytime soon

I think the answer to this question is absolutely and irrefutably a yes... Pop Cap wouldn't exactly be stepping out of the box on an issue like this, since video games involving pre-order bonuses VERY OFTEN provide those exact same pre-order "exclusive" bonuses to folks via other means, whether it be in game unlocks or purchasable DLC. The most important thing that Pop Cap can probably do, however, is make their absolute final decision sooner than later so players who would rather play Garden Warfare 2 don't spend hours on the first game grinding out coins to upgrade their characters. The truth of the matter, however, is that the majority of people who weren't already level 313 (or close to it) are going to be less likely to go back to the first game just for one character... Basically what this means is that the vast majority of 313 ranks got an UNEXPECTED FREE CHARACTER, or simply realized that they were already extremely close to getting it.
So the reality of the matter is that no ones getting short changed, and in fact it's the opposite. The majority of the community isn't going to feel like going back to the first game to get one character (myself included), so giving people the opportunity to either purchase or unlock the character is doing fans a huge favor that is likely to resonate with more people than it ticks off...
A good example is the Z7 Imp, which I specifically paid the 10 extra dollars on the "Deluxe Edition" for... Is 10 dollars a lot of money? Not really, but I also work very hard for my money. But on the same token, would I be against people having the ability to unlock him in game? I could honestly care less...
With me, personally, I had an absolute blast playing PVZ Garden Warfare 1, but there are so many things about the first game -- aside from the maps -- that just make it completely obsolete compared to the second game... With that said, I honestly don't feel like going back and playing it just for one character, and for what it's worth, I actually ended up having the video game on two consoles. I purchased the game (at launch) for the Xbox 360 and was basically an online bulldozer getting well past 100. I later downloaded the game on the PS4, after I sold my 360, and got to about level 96 (or so). Overall, I'd be about a 250, and would have probably went back for the 60 plus levels if I had them all on one console, but PVZGW2 has been so fun that I just don't feel like it.
