PvZ Garden Wareface for Xbox One Stuck in blacked out loading screen

every time my son tries to playt split screen, the game goes into a blackout out screen and shows the flower pedals in the lower right side of the screen as the game is loading up but nothing happens...

Could you walk me through exactly what you're doing after you select split screen? And when the blackscreen occurs?

Is the second player a guest or a second account? What map do you select? How often are you encountering it?
