PvZ Garden Warfare 1: Primary Weapon Won't Stop Firing (PC)

Recently, I've been having this issue where when I try to play Garden Warfare 1 on PC, my primary weapon won't stop firing despite the fact that I'm not holding down the button in anyway. I've tried restarting my PC, repairing the game files, and resetting the in-game controls. I'm unsure of what to do. Does it have to do with my mouse? Could it be because of some apps I have open? What even causes this issue to begin with? I've tried looking it up too and found zero results.

  • So after further inspection, the reason why all this happened was due to my PC reading a controller that didn't exist. I only figured this out because some games I play would constantly detect a gamepad when there wasn't one plugged in. Issue was finally solved by opening the device manager and Uninstalling the device.

  • Do you have any game overlays open? Sometimes overlays can mess with your inputs (like Discord overlay for example). It was giving me aiming and firing issues wayyy back until I disabled it. Try looking for anything like that, and see if that fixes it.

As far as I'm aware, the only overlays that I usually have on are Steam (because I set up a shortcut for it on there) and EA Desktop (obviously). I usually keep the Discord overlay disabled as I feel it's unnecessary. I haven't really ran into any issues with it until now.

Additionally, I have tried turning off every possible overlay (that being Discord, Steam, and EA Desktop) to no avail. Is there potentially any other possible solutions by chance?

adding more to this as I also discovered that tabbing back into the window for some reason shows gamepad controls and my third ability gets immediately activated.
