Re: Am I the only one playing out of a sense of obligation?

@spIash_damageBut you can go to different games? It is sad of course if your friends want to keep playing BFN and you want to quit, but that's just how gaming is. Or you can find a fun side-game to play with your buddies so they can keep playing BFN. Yeah, it is unfortunate and sad to leave those friendships behind. Luckily, I've got other ways to spend time with some of my friends who only play GW2.

I see what you mean and I should have known that this was about more than the game.

Not so much.

I quit gaming 10+ years back because I’m reallllly picky about a game’s mechanics and I got busy with life (40 in January).

I only started gaming again because bullies had my children to the point of crying (dang near) in GW1 one night when I walked past their door.  I didn’t expect to fall in love with the series but really did.

Now, I’m not the normal gamer in the fact I only kept playing the series for my buddies and to set records.... there’s no record keeping or leaderboard in BfN plus the servers are so laggy after the last “fix,” I truly can’t play.

If something doesn’t change by the time I acquire my land, I’m out (sad at the loss of time with friends but happy to finally acquire land).

I have ZERO desire to game with strangers and now any bullies that pick on my children can be sorted out by their cousins (now in their mid teens).

Simply put - if BFN doesn’t work for me and we don’t see GW3, I’m out. 🙁

@spIash_damage No you said it's about more than the game and the friends is what makes it matter, so why is it that you can't find a new game to play with some of your friends if gaming with your friends is so important to you?

    Pretty dense, huh? 🤔🤦🏼‍♂️

You certainly aren’t alone- while I’m still playing it’s more just to have something to do rather than because I really enjoy what the game has to offer.

BfN is more of a chore. While GW2 also had grind, that grind was secondary because you could rest assured that the (frustratingly stingy) Sticker Packs and other random drops would eventually award you everything the game had to offer and you could just play at your own pace.

Unfortunately the gaming landscape has changed since GW2, with publishers dumping the idea of large updates with tons of content and new things to do in favor of a drip-fed trickle intended to last for months or years and the implementation of Battle Pass style systems to force players to constantly grind for content or potentially lose out on that content.

GW2 wanted to be a fun game with fun things and fun challenges to award a sense of real accomplishment which kept people interested with large drops of content throughout the year

BfN wants to be your job, is afraid to offer any real challenge and thinks the only way to keep players interested is to spoon feed little bits of things over a super long time.

@realitysquared Yep bfn wants to draw out its prize map content for an entire month forcing the player to be married to the system to get every item and figures that teasing the players with one upgrade or not per month is going to keep players interested rather than adding new modes and maps to actually help the game and so far oozevoir was just bad and the only reason preserve pastures is loved is because most bfn turf maps are straight up garbage.

@spIash_damageYeah, sorry, I'm missing something here. I asked if you could move on to different games and if you could find a fun side-game to play with your buddies so they can keep playing BFN. You responded with "I only kept playing the series for my buddies.."

"I’ll be acquiring land in July and if the servers aren’t playable for me by then, I’ll be completely done gaming but that doesn’t make it easy to leave my buddies/never play with them again." So if the servers are playable in July then you can keep playing BFN? Then why can't you just find a fun side-game to play with some of your friends if the servers aren't playable by July? Just because you don't enjoy the game doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave every single one of your friendships behind.

@shurikeninja  I’m confused why you’re going on and if you’re not trying to wind me up, I don’t know what else you’re up to.... seems a PM would’ve been better than your public, passive aggressive insinuations? 🤔

    Here goes anyhow....

I quit playing games almost a decade ago because game mechanics I prefer rarely exists in today’s games.  To be exact, I quit playing 7-8 years ago.  If it took me 7-8 years to find another shooter I enjoyed (and even then, only found it accidentally), how would you suppose I find a new game in 6 weeks?

... not to mention, WE TRIED TO FIND A NEW GAME FOR MONTHS now and haven’t found one yet.

Let’s play devil’s advocate and say I find a game I enjoy... what’s the chances all of my PVZ friends enjoying that game, too... furthermore, what’s the chances they’ll like it more than BFN or GW’s (enough to leave those games)?

Better yet, let’s look at the logistics... PS5 is due sooner than later so what’s the chances everyone can acquire the same game in time (before I move), everyone like it enough to play it, and all of us not move onto PS5?

I don’t expect my friends to move onto another title just because my region can’t play on these servers anymore and none of us live near enough one another to visit in real life.  @dwooten77  and I have spoken about co-mingling families on vacation but we’re states apart.

To get more personal than necessary, the land we’re acquiring is over 30 acres and has never been developed for a homestead.... we will be putting in a road over a 1/4 mile long to the house alone, drilling a water well, running electricity and sewage, and building a perimeter road of almost a full mile before I can focus on extras.

I could go on and on but it’s pointless, if you still can’t grasp how futile efforts would be (finding a new game).

By all means, please PM me, if you care to stay off-topic/accuse me of making this up. 😊👍

@spIash_damage  Omg... I think I want to come and live on your land too 😃 hahahahaha
    sounds perfect to me ❤️

This is the solution!  We can all play paintball until BFN gets better and GW1/2 when it storms/too hot! 🤔

There’s enough room for the lot of us.

@spIash_damage Sorry, I wasn't arguing with you or trying to be passive-agressive, I was just confused. Still, your case is different to the average gamer as you said, your very picky about a game's mechanics. That's a bummer though, I can see why it'd be tough for you to leave BFN now.

I 100% understand.  I thought, if you weren’t being sarcastic and truly curious, you would’ve PM’d me.  Perhaps I should’ve just replied to you in private instead. (🤓 me....)

I wasn’t looking to get back into gaming when I fell in love with GW1 and truly doubt another series will appeal to me enough to game again.

    Peace! 😊👍

@spIash_damage Yeah I have no idea what goes on in this game anymore.  Clean and sober of pvz for a bit now.

We definitely tried to find other games but just resort to classics that don’t offer multiplayer.  Unfortunate indeed.  Hope the others here are doing well.  The ones I like anyway.
