The only way to consistently win without constantly overhauling your deck everytime a new hot event card comes out is to have a splatter of removal and I believe that for both plants and zombies.
I don't really know what "type" deck I have but I would guess it's probably what would be a hybrid of a couple which may be a combo deck.
All I can tell you is like @Azombioso mentioned, even playing decks that have a specific theme, you're still going to need to get rid of the cards that spell out your doom.
Final mission is another nice way to get rid of the conjuring cucumber. And sometimes you have to be smart and save a couple cards. Boogaloo has that supertrick were he gets two 1/1 dancing zombies, and they work quite nicely to sacrifice for final mission....just saying
