We need to talk about Chompers.

Who in balancing's good name thought Chomper's spikeweed should instantly snare any target?

In GW1, it was balanced, taking 2 seconds to arm itself before snaring an enemy and leaving them helpless.

GW2? Instant snare. You get even slightly close to a Chomper, they throw down the spikeweed, and there's nothing more you can do to defend yourself.

The worst part is the fact Chomper also has goop to ensure you can't escape, and burrow, good for closing a distance.

Combined with these other abilities, you will never see a "good" Chomper lay down their spikeweeds randomly across the map, they always use it for the instant snare, and an easy vanquish.

Not to mention Chomper gets one spikeweed back apon swallowing a target.

I've talked about this before, but never this much. In my other post, I briefly talked about how Chomper is far from underpowered, and better than Super Heroes when it comes to melee, thanks to the instant snare.

Guys, please change this. It's because of this I (and I'm certain many other people) am afraid to approach ANY Chomper.

  • I only ever have problems facing Chompers ( notice it's in plural) if my teammates are garbage and don't use their abilities to deal with them properly. I can only take out so many on my own.

Stay on high ground where Chompers will have to jump up to get to you unless you're playing Turf Takeover and planning to capture/defend a base from any unwanted intruders.
Engineers are still the worst enemies against Chompers when burrowed, why nerf them if they can be countered by rooftop campers?

@MrGamer8000 unless the chomper has found a route to the roof of course then no one is safe

    nom nom nom 😉

  • @thackest2k LOL I've seen that happen sometimes. Like the pipings of the houses in Zomburbia, it's possible to get on the rooftop in Great White North during the first Objective phase, you can get a lift like Cactus' tallnuts to the top of the dome in Seeds of Time during the first Objective phase. I'm sure everyone will hate anyone that unlocks Assistant Manager Bitey as a new Chomper variant. (He's the one with the jetpack, he's cute with it too :3)

Well if you happen to see anyone like Cacti while on the rooftop, make sure you have the gap covering you so you don't expose yourselves unless you happen to be Super Brainz standing out like you're Superman.

Not trying to be mean Jesse, but this strategy does work very well whenever you find a competent Chomper. They also hate Pirate Drones as well. 😉

The thing is, I am a Super Hero / Scientist main when it comes to Zombies. So when I come to face a Chomper, I fear they will know of the instant snare, and often find myself trying to avoid and escape them. Even if they don't know of the instant snare, they often use the effective goop to burrow strategy. Either way, Chompers can be difficult enemies.

We haven't even gone into detail about the other Chomper variants. Do not get me started on Hot Rod or Yeti Chomper.
  • I totally agree that spikeweed needs to go back to the way it was in GW1. It is ridiculous to get an instant snare/chomp just by dropping it near a foe. It was much better to have the foe get caught for a few seconds while you try to take them down. The instant swallowing of your foe just because they are snared is not only ridiculous but is totally OP in my opinion. Totally agree with Superjesse124 here! Please adjust this feature Devs.

@MrGamer8000 yea im guilty with the first base in zomburbia anyone on that roof is my priority if im a chomper i just love wrecking their hight advantage assault . i would love bitey to be a legendary even as he is with no burrow spike weed or goop abilities.

jesse i had a lot of problems with the flame chomper ages ago with there spray but nice bit of advice try out the ones you fear/hate learn their mechanics once you mastered them you know how to combat em by predicting what they are going to do. plus it might drop your death ratio by half as well

You use for the most two characters that are kinda slighly countered by chomper. That's it.

The reason why spikeweed ois instant (thanks god) because it's a stationary, almost useless, cc.

If it was thrownable like a time snare i could agree, but you need toget closer to people.

Correct your positioning if chompers are making you issues, stay with frirnds, that's it.

Also as a scientists tbh there are ways to couner him.
You have to predict their goop by using warp.
It's easier than you think. When you see a Chomper approaching you, instead of escaping (because they can't trade you) and there are straight 10 metres near your face..well,you know they're going to goop you

May I ask you what a Chomper is supposed to do against a scientist if it does not use goop or burrow? Most Chompers wouldn't bother trying to snare a scientist because it can still vanquish them with their shotgun even if they are gooped.

  • The problem is not that zombies get snared. The problem is with the fact that in GW2, unlike GW1, once someone is snared they are automatically eaten by the chomper. That's pretty cheap in my opinion. No zombie should be INSTANTLY EATEN just because they got snared. That's not how snare is supposed to work.
