What's the deal with the sticky explodey balls?

Love the Scientist, my favorite class by far but damn those sticky balls are annoying! They NEVER go where I want them to, they're wonky as all heck. Seriously, they don't stick where you throw them...

I wonder if the target character type has any effect on damage. I think I recall doing 92 or 94 damage against an All Star. Still not 100 or a one shot kill... but more than 88.

I agree with Crimson; I have never done more than 88 damage using the camo shot and I should know because I use him most of the time I play as plants. Unless there is some way to do some kind of elemental effect that makes you do more damage, I don't see any way to get a critical that's higher than 88.
