Sorry to hear you're running into this.
From the sounds of things you may be running into a memory issue.
The error you've described where the screen/box turns gray and gives a sad face is usually an indicator that the tab has run out of memory.
Could you let us know what browser you are using?
If you are using chrome can you try using a different browser like Microsoft Edge or Firefox and let us know if you run into the same problem.
If you do run into the same problem would you be able to upload a DxDiag for us to take a look at to see if we can narrow down the issue?
