iMac 27" 2012 - SimCity for Mac will not run in 2560x1440

Hello,

Like others here I am unable to select the native screen res of 2560x1440... maximum option is 1920x1440.

I am able to run the max res in Windows 7 running in bootcamp.  After waiting 6 months for a native version of this software, this is completely unacceptable.

Specs are as follows:

iMac

27", Late 2012

3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

GeForce GTX 680MX 2gb

3TB Fusion Drive

There is a workaround! You can use the same approach that is suggested for getting Retina resolutions on the MacBook Pros, per this thread. Basically:

    1. Close Sim City.

    2. Open up Origin, go to My Games.

    3. Right-click Sim City, go to Game Properties.

    4. In the window that comes up, enter:

    -r:2560x1440

    4. Press Apply and start the game in all its widescreen glory.

Now, why isn't this supported out of the box!??

I am also having the exact same issue on a 27" iMac (2012), and I have also tried simcity on windows 7 on bootcamp and it accepted 2560 x 1440 resolution.

It's so ugly playing with black boxes on either side of the game. Unacceptable EA!!

    27", late 2012

    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB

    1TB Fusion Drive

Im also on a new slim iMac with maxed out specs and it wont let me choose a native resolution... I cant find anything in the config files to force it either.

This needs to be fixed ASAP Maxis.

    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

I've got a similar spec iMac (but with the 675MX), and i'd prefer to run it at a native screen res too.

If i need to turn down some of the detail on the graphics, that's fine, but since i'm not really a gaming expert, it'd be useful to have an FAQ which explains which ones to turn down.  Otherwise i've got to spend about 40 minutes figuring out which ones actually makes a difference, and which ones can stay on medium or high detail.

A configuration that runs at native res, and has smooth zoom and rotating is what i'm after.

    Thanks

    Mark

I have exactly the same problem on the same specifications. I contacted their online chat support who, eventually, admitted they were aware many are having this problem (nothing above 1920x1440) and that there was simply no solution at the moment. This makes me incredibly angry as it is a glaring error and not acceptable, never mind unbelievable considering amount of time took to release this mac version. Hope it gets sorted soon and I guess just count myself lucky I have bootcamp.

Using a Dell 30" on Mac Pro and it shows no resolutions past 1920x1440 - Do they even test games anymore... using Nvidia

I am just so disappointed with EA.  I have the iMac 27", 3.4GHz Intel Core i7, 32GB Memory, GTX680MX 2GB, 3TB Fusion Drive and yet I can't run SC in full screen in 2560x1440.

    What's the problem EA?

Funny thing is that I have Windows 8 running in bootcamp and running SC in 2560x1440 is not a problem.

This is really frustrating.  I waited and waited and this is the crap EA gave us.

  • Thank you for your help, your solution worked! Runs slow as heck though!
