@WellmaxxBR wrote:Unfortunately, this solution is not "functional",
for exemple: I have the full version of SimCity with all its DLCs including addons,
Plumbo Park and others are still "unable to claim many abandoned cities" on various maps and regions.
What would be ideal: Have a reset "button" in abandoned cities being possible to claim the city whenever possible.
This is ideal! Think about it EA!I will go try I own everything and all the promotional things. I was very obsessed with this game and had to have everything. I see what you mean and I own all the stuff that ever came with this game. Thats not right to lock people out of claiming it either.

@pepperjax1230 - There are abandoned cities from players who may be from other countries or had a pre-order bonus or a different promotional item that unfortunately are just not obtainable. These include Country-specific special buildings, the Launch Arcology, Progressive Insurance, and a Crest promotion that ran for a limited time. I made a detailed list in this post if you're interested in the details.

But I have those items. All of them I was very obsessed over this game and had to have everything so I would get items from EA that I didn't have. I am probably the best person to test it out because I literally have it all except the country based DLC But I have the Deluxe Edition stuff I preordered COT So I have the roller coaster and the launch Arcology thing I have a heart balloon park thing and the crest stuff. Also the progressive building that really isn't that useful LOL ETA: So I have all the country based DLC now and its what causing you not to be able to claim them I just claimed one I couldn't before. So they should make it available for everyone I mean technically its still around if you use a VPN to get it. Or they should flush out abandoned cities to make them playable for everyone.

I think the simplest and most universal solution is the reset button for abandoned cities.
Thus ALL SimCity gamers of any country or region can "reset" an abandoned city and claim it to play freely.- pepperjax12306 years agoSeasoned Ace

Everyone went to City Skylines after this game died. The EP didn't even add anything great to the game the lots were and are way to small to build on.

@pepperjax1230 - Thank you so much for the testing! I have long suspected the country-specific buildings as the biggest problem, because they're still being given out.
You are indeed the best person to test this. I have everything except the Launch Arcology and the country-specific buildings. I keep meaning to do the vpn thing to get them, but honestly, I play offline except to test things for other people, so never got around to it. Glad to be able to say for certain that this is the issue. Enjoy your new challenges, and Happy Building!
It's April 2021 and although Origin let me buy SimCity in Oktober 2020 again (lost my original E-mail account so I couldn't access the 2014 Purchased complete version) I find out they still haven't fixed this problem. Why still sell it through the official channels but not take care of the program's bugs fixes is part of the whole chain of commerce. I no nothing of programming, but even if EA / Origin can't fix it directly their is always a work- around like someone in this topic suggested "have a reset button that will reset left City's to not yet claimed city's. Which would have already been a nice feature, even if their was nog bug with re-claiming abandonen city's' for it would clear the grey city's in the region that people had abandoned.
I have more respect is they sell a product that is good.

Hi @Sim_LinkGanon - SimCity is a legacy game now; the development team was dissolved in 2015. There will be no more updates or fixes.
The message "you do not own some of the content" is not technically wrong; if you can't claim an abandoned city, then the mayor who founded the city had some extra content that you do not have. Unfortunately, there are some items that you can no longer get, and other items that are country-specific (as outlined previously in this thread). This makes it difficult for some and impossible for others to ever claim the city.
I agree that it is frustrating and have long wished that they would make a DLC that includes all the previous promotional content. But it's unlikely they are able to do even this, because it would require a development team - and there isn't one. It does stop you from claiming abandoned cities, but it does not stop you from making your own cities or playing the game.
Thank you BlackJackWidow for your feedback,
I believe, when selling "the complete edition" you should be able to make use of the full gameplay, otherwise they should mention this is a 2015 Dissolved legacy game. For a nine year old game I think 30€ is a full price.
I bought it again (but that's my fault due to hacked- mail problems) for reclaiming abandoned city's, because I dislike that city's are already be abandoned often within a day and that leaves grey unclaimable city which on it's turn invite others to abandon the region.
Well we can discuss it until the all game is grey... So thank you for your response. I was able to put a little frustration (relatively very very very small frustration) to print and that's how I can clear my thoughts. As some one even replied on that thought I am fully at ease.
Thanks again.

I'm glad you were able to voice your frustrations, @Sim_LinkGanon and I'm really sorry that you can't play the game in the way you intended. I, too, find it frustrating that most of the time I can't claim abandoned cities. Especially because I happen to own almost all of the content that was ever available, so it doesn't seem to make much sense.
And I definitely dislike how so many cities are started and then abandoned after the mayor spends just a few hours or days of playing. I understand that new players sometimes get themselves in a bad position when they first start out, but it would be so much nicer if they would come back & try to fix it.
Anyway - like you said, we can talk about it forever, but unfortunately nothing will likely change. I still have my fingers crossed, hoping they will add a way for all of us to get the same content so this doesn't happen as often. (If you're interested in finding out what might be the things you're "missing", this post lists the items.)
Happy Building!!
Hello Sim_LinkGanon!
I share your frustration and dissatisfaction!
I have a complete copy of SimCity with all addons and DLCs since the first year of its release, and I bought all DLCs over the time they were released.
And yet I still face this same problem of NOT being able to claim an abandoned city!
This was from the beginning that I bought the game, that is 2013 onwards, and at this time I already received messages regarding NOT being able to claim the abandoned cities on the maps I was trying to play.
I made numerous complaints / suggestions via chat / email / phone etc ...
But EA never really cared about helping, none of us Gamers!
Unfortunately, EA’s interest is only to profit from Gamers,
this FACT is so true, that even after EA "ABANDON" SimCity, it still keeps it for sale in its Official Store, and for a very ABSURD value, for a Game that was relegated to "Forgetfulness and Full of Bugs"! !
Again, disrespect and disregard for all of us Gamers in love with the SimCity!
What made me open this and other topics here at HQ, to show all SimCity fans how much GANANCIA AND the HUGE SEARCH for PROFIT can Destroy Great Games!
Unfortunately EA is one of the worst on the market!
Here is my SUPPORT to you in a Solidary way as a Fan that I belong to the SimCity series!
Long Live Gamers !!🙌🙌
