Character height affecting pop height way too much

I started out by making my character the smallest size possible and while I get that it’s meant to be realistic it ended up affecting the gameplay a lot more than I expected. After a while it just felt frustrating instead of fun.

What happens is that because of the smaller height my pops on the board were lower and during grind objectives I’d barely get enough height to stick to the rail. Any challenge that involved jumping onto something or grinding started to feel like a chore and I found myself not looking forward to those parts at all.

A possible fix would be:

-Make character height have little to no effect on gameplay
-Keep the differences mostly cosmetic so players can choose any size they want
-Make sure grind and jump objectives work the same for everyone regardless of character size

Besides that, a little polish in the parkour system would be nice, a dedicated "roll" input so we dont stick to the ground when landing backflips and such.

Both photos taken on the peak height of jump, camera wasn't moved

hold stick down longer to maximize ollie height. prejump to reach max height before an obstacle. hold stick up after pop to bone the ollie, maximizing board height.

It's a legitimate issue, not just a matter of holding down the stick. I encourage any one to try to jump up the rail at the end of the Street Snake line challenge with a short skater. It's nearly impossible. I can easily hit it every time with a tall skater.

That Street Snake challenge is legit the one I was just struggling with, I had to quit the mission to practice the rail and I literally couldn't do it at all until I made my character taller and then it became easy.

  • I made a post about this as well with my own screenshots just to make sure they see this issue. It seems that pop is calculated as a fraction of your character’s height, and not a defined value based on the world around. The solution would just to have shorter characters pop like 1.5x what a tall character would, proportional to their height settings (1-2-3).

this is a legitimate issue because according to your height, you will be UNABLE to complete certain missions because they make you ollie to a height you are unable to without allowing you to place objects in some missions.  its a fine mechanic, but its like they didn't playtest their game at all

  • This is a must fix!!! The challenge where I found this most apparent was the flip trick onto the 2 separate manual platforms. It was much more challenging to make that transition jump from manual onto the next structure into another manual with the shorter character. Switched my height to max & helped my buddy with all the dailies, ran into the challenge again & hit it first try.

  • Legitimate issue that makes this game unplayable for certain challenges and overall more unenjoyable. This is an unbelievably embarrassing oversight by the developers. I can’t believe that not a single person in the process thought this would be an issue.

We did playtest this. I posted about it months ago in the pre alpha. Nothing has been done about it :(

  • One way i found to land safely from a tall height is to do a spread eagle and right before the ground press Y/Triangle, you will do a roll. Definitely messes with a good parkour lines flow, but if you just want it for exploration and moving around easier, it works pretty well.
