A way to go from dx12 to dx11 outside of the game?

I was fiddling with the graphic settings in-game last night and hit the dx12 slider which tanked my game. As I tried to get back in I would get stuck at the first splash screen with Rey, Darth Maul, and Iden... which was actually my computer freezing which it's done since. So far I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Battlefront 2 and Origin with no luck getting past the splash screen. I'm updated my drivers to the nvidia ones released on 11/14 and am currently trying a repair on the game (which I will let you know how that goes).

My question here is if there is a way to run the dx11 client without having to log into the game and move that dx11/12 slider, or a something to revert the client to dx11 outside the game?

  • Okay, I fixed it by deletign the Star Wars BF2 folder(s) under users documents, then repairing the game.

  • I had this issues and after a while of searching online I finally figured it out. the game by has an auto HDR setting. my game was running on DX11 instead of DX12 causing my PC to completely hard shutdown. I changed it to DX12, outside of the game via documents/StarWarsBattlefrontII/settings and adjusting the "BootOptions" with the notepad and changing the "GstRender.EnableDx12 0" to "GstRender.EnableDx12 1". HDR still turned on but I was able to get into the game and switch that setting to off by going into the in game video settings, therefore fixing my problem completely. Hope this helps anyone who comes across it!

@ToxicBear223 would you be able to share your settings folder? I've been having this issue for weeks except the settings/bootoptions are missing in the documents section.

You Rock! This fixed it. I'm rolling with an Alienware Aurora R15 w/4090 RTX. Installed this game again for May 4th after playing it years ago.  I was like, wtf?

    Most grateful.

You can type this in your windows search bar to find on your system.  \Documents\Star Wars Battlefront II\settings, open BootOptions with a text editor, and change GstRender.EnableDx12 1 to GstRender.EnableDx12 0

Or, right click your start button.

    Select File Explorer.

Click the  Documents folder, go to Starwars Battlefront, click that.

    Click on Settings

Then inside that folder, right click on BootOptions.

    Select "Open with Notepad"

The first line inside Notepad shows EnableDx12 1.

You want to change the 1 to 0.

Then save over the file inside the settings folder (BootOptions)

Launch the game and it should be in DX11.
