I have this exact same problem, only started very recently. My personal opinion on why this could be happening is a Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition issue. I originally bought the game when it came out on origin, with the Deluxe Edition included. However, as the game seemed to progress through it's life cycle we saw the exclusion of the title and it became the celebration edition instead. My friends who had also bought the original Elite Trooper Deluxe play the game through EA Desktop now. Years later when the game released via Steam, I bought it again so I could launch the game through there. For a long time, as I said until recently the invites would work with no issues. But now, much like the photo posted, it requires you to install the game in order to join them. I can invite them, and they can join me just fine. But not the other way around. When I reinstalled the game on EA Desktop, the version I own which was previously the Deluxe, I am then able to accept invites without issue. This is just my personal take on the matter, and I would very much like to see it resolved as I prefer to launch my games on steam. Thanks for reading.

Same.

I am still experiencing this. A friend of mine now also has the issue, so we can't play together. I can't accept invites but I also can't invite him because he can't accept invites.

Same bro, I've had this problem for a literal 3 months. No fix at all. I contacted EA support and they said they'd look into it but it's been over a month. I changed PCs to see what would happen and no change, so it's definitely server side/EA-sided issue.
