Where did you "hear" the rumors about the patch? Do you have a link maybe. In that case I would refrain from calling the EA customer support, because I have the feeling that this forum here won't do much good if I look at the size of the thread and take into account how old this bug actually already is.
"Rumors" are just what have been posted by other members on the boards. Unsourced comments, further up in this same thread though. Nothing from any of the devs as far as I'm aware as I think they're afraid to give any confirmation other than "we're aware of the issue."
