Gamma issue on launch

This has been bothering me for so long and I'm absolutely sick of it. I'm playing in DX12 mode because DX11 is far too crash happy and sluggish - DX12 may run at a lower frame rate, but the game runs smoother overall and though the constant shader optimisation is an annoyance I can live with to get a crash-free, smoothly running game. But this problem will not go away, it keeps returning. Often when launching the game the gamma will be set way too bright, and nothing I do in the options can fix it. The game doesn't recognise that anything is wrong so changing the gamma or brightness setting does not fix it.

Often what will fix it is switching between full-screen, borderless and windowed, but sometimes it just won't work and I have to leave the game for another day. Sometimes it doesn't happen on launch. Usually it does. Is there a setting I can change anywhere, either in options or Radeon Settings? Because I'm so irritated with having to deal with this with the added confusion of seeing nobody else complain about it, so finding information about it is a pointless exercise.

I've taken screenshots to show what it looks like -

Borderless/fullscreen shot

Windowed mode, more clearly showing the gamma issue with banding where the light curves on the right.

  • You are the first person I've ever heard say DX12 helps with an issue.  LOL  If you search this forum, you will see numerous posts saying DX12 should be turned off. (It is for me because of the issues it produced.)

Setting above aside for just a second, what you're experiencing sounds similar to what I was seeing when experimenting with HDR. You might want to check the HDR settings (in game and in Windows and on your monitor).

If that doesn't help, I suggest you add screen shots of all your video settings and attach a DXDIAG report, as someone may spot something.
