Hardlock/Missiles causing stutter in Starfighter modes

Greetings,

I'm having this issue since the release of SWBF2, but after the patch which included the new HUD / player icons, it became significantly worse. Whenever someone uses the hardlock ability on me in starfighter modes, my game will freeze for a brief moment (0.5 - 2 seconds) which gets me killed quite often.

It looks exactly like in this video made by another player:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4nuqtf7sdA

It also happens when I get locked by missiles, but less frequent and severe. I also suspect simply getting targeted by other players can trigger another very short freeze, as it often happens right before getting shot at or when players counter-lock me (I assume) when I shoot at them. It's like there is some sort of laggy handshake going on between players. Playing maps with a lot of interceptors and bombers can be a nightmare sometimes with constant hickups. Hero starfighter is almost unplayable because a lot of those abilities can be spammed at you in a short amount of time/at once and dying has a bigger impact. I also get a freeze everytime I spawn, but that alone would be tolerable. Other than that, the game runs pretty smoothly, at least on directx11 and on starfighter assault, haven't been playing much else so far. No hickups on the same maps vs. bots in arcade mode either, so I'm really thinking it's a connection issue.

I've been spending a lot of time troubleshooting since the release, mostly connection issues, but also OS and hardware, including:

- port forwarding

- playing around with the rudimentary QoS settings of my router (Firtzbox 6490 cable)

- Windows Defender / firewall on/off

- disabling Xbox app / Game DVR

- consulting my ISP

- fresh install of SWBF2

- fresh install of Windows 10

- OC vs. stock...

But everything else seems fine and nothing has helped so far. Temps are good according to HWMonitor, CPU barely hits 50° and GPU is at max. 72° after having played for 2 hours, case was recently cleaned and has two 140mm fans in and one 140mm out, all good there. Drivers are up to date, Windows runs on a SDD, game runs on another SSD. Using a wired connection to my router, WLAN deactivated, PC is only device in network. Connection is cable with 200 Mb/s up, 13 Mb/s down and my ping is usually around 20-30. I don't know what else to try and it's really unplayable since the last patch. I have included a dxdiag. Please help!

    Hi @DeadEcho82
Having the same issue. Found that restarting, after playing for a couple hours, seemed to help. DOn't know why, but it might be the same card. Just installed the 1080 and while it is faster, it does hang just as you mention above.
@EA_Ataashi, please keep me in the loop on further discussion!.
    Thx

Thanks for the response! I've been trying some of the other game modes yesterday and can confirm that those freezes only occur in multiplayer starfighter modes, campaign, arcade and other mp modes run great wihout major hickups.

The only 2 assumptions I have left are that there's some "event" happening in the background when players are locking onto each other and that this event can trigger a freeze, wether it's related to CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, OS, ethernet etc. I'm not able to pinpoint, but If I had to take a guess after all the things I've tried, I would say it's a connection issue.

And if it's not the event itself, it might be the visual notifications. Every time these freezes occur, they're accompanied by changes in the 2D overlay, like the hardlock warning message or the orange arrow popping up when you get shot. And as I said, I have this problem since the release, but after the recent update including the HUD overhaul, it got way worse and freezes are longer and more frequent now. Other than that, the game runs like butter. I could be watching a capital ship explode with dozens of players flying around @@200+ fps at one moment, but at the next moment I could be facing the edge of the map with nothing but black space on the screen and get a 2 second freeze as someone is locking me up from behind.

Agreed. The freezes last under 2 secs but happening only in SA.
    Great job working on it.

Hey @Major-Band1t, thanks for investigating as well! There really wasn't much I could do besides turning things on and off and call for help. :D

I really hope they can do something about it, this game has so much great content. Unfortunately, the one niche I'm interested in and the reason why I bought the game isn't working for me. As usual... 😉

@DeadEcho82 I bought ti fly in space, then found I liked HvV. Also the offline campaign is better with the 3 levels to play. Makes you better. Then you have Arcade. Wow, those would be enough for me, but still, new content, leveling up characters, new maps based on the movies and then WTF, Galactic Assault. So many moving pieces, blasters, grenades, turrets, and then AT-AT's and Aircraft. All in one, live and real time, based on 439 other trigger fingers.. Very cool
Played over 1000 hours. still suck..

Sorry, you pull 39 other trigger fingers, then wait a certain number of milliseconds for the grenade, blaster, rocket, etc to hit something and go off, while still shooting, people dieing and spawning, running, jumping, rolling, flying, and the blowing up effects make me crack up with bodies flying in the air, :D it's like 439 events / second.. All live.
  • Thank you very much, the august update fixed it! Just played a few rounds, not a single hick up! Good job, super fast as well!
