Severe Lag and Desync in Multiplayer – Traffic Routed to US from Europe
Hi,
I've been playing Star Wars Battlefront II (PC) online for several days without issues, but over the past four days I'm experiencing serious lag and desync, including:
Rubberbanding (teleporting back and forth)
Delayed or missed shots
Invisible walls
Time jumps
Nothing changed on my end – hardware and software are the same, and my internet is stable (20 ms ping, 0% packet loss).
However, a traceroute to easo.ea.com shows that traffic from my location in Europe is being routed through the US (Washington DC, IAD1), instead of staying within the EU. There are also timeouts in the last hops.
Even when I use a VPN based in the Netherlands, the route still goes through London and then to the US, which suggests this is not an ISP issue but something in EA’s backend or Akamai/Prolexic routing.
This might explain the lag, as latency and instability increase once the connection leaves Europe.
Can EA confirm if this routing behavior is expected, or if there’s a misconfiguration affecting EU players?
Thanks!
The solution seemed to have been allowing some TCP/UDP ports in my router. Point 3 in this Star Wars Battlefront II Troubleshooting FAQ | EA Forums - 10538866 (German). Weird that it became a problem from one day to the next though.
