Unable to play with Joystick connected

I have a Logitech X56 HOTAS connected to my computer because I play a lot of space sim games (Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, etc).  Sidestepping the whole issue of why there isn’t any joystick support in this Star Wars game, I can’t even play the game at all unless I disconnect the joystick phyisically. It seems to default all commands to what I assume are xbox controller keys, which are mapped to ridiculous places on the HOTAS.  My mouse and keyboard won’t work.  PLEASE fix this!  No other game has this problem, not Battlefront 1, and not Mass Effect Andromeda.  Not really interested in unplugging my joystick everytime I play this game (which so far is almost never).
