you'll need a new app to open this com.epicgames.launcher link

I snagged BF2 on Epic back when it was free. I was unable to play much due to my computer's inferior stats, and Epic itself was sucking up a lot of processing power on top of a lot of other apps I had. I ended up uninstalling Origin and Epic. Recently I wanted to play again, so I downloaded Origin and the game. I got an error message:

"you'll need a new app to open this com.epicgames.launcher link"

I'm assuming this means I need to reinstall epic, but is there an alternative way I can get the game to run without it? If I buy the game on Steam can I play it on the same account, or would that not work either?

Frankly, I would be more interested in addressing the computer's "inferior stats". Does the PC even meet minimum requirements?

I should reiterate. Yes they meet minimum requirements and then some. I have since added more ram, a better processor and a better graphics card.

    Nvidia GeForce 1060 6GB

    16 GB Ram

    Intel i7-7700

So no, specs are not the problem.

Hypotenuse, I've received the same message,

After switching to a new computer, I installed the Origin app and installed the Star Wars: Battlefront II game. Came up with the error message.

What didn't work: reinstalling both Origin and game while using Run As Administrator, same message.

What worked: After installing Origin and Star Wars the second time, I installed the Epic Games launcher (search for "Epic Games launcher" for the epicgames.com link).

After running the Epic Games launcher and logging in, it showed Star Wars: Battlefront II in the library.

Problems launching the game: I've tried launching the game from Origin, and i get no response at all. I launch the game directly, and it requires I login again in to Epic Games, which opens a browser window to do so. Then it launches Origin and then the game.

Smoothest way to launch the game: Run the Epic Games launcher (which remembered my login). When I open the library and click the game Launch link there, it will launch Origin, which will then launch Battlefront II.

Amazing how user unfriendly this is.

  • You have to have the ea games app installed as well as the epic games app installed for the game to run .

    Rudundant but essential .
