Origin/Steam Keys

With the return of EA to Steam will newly released games have interchangeable keys between Steam and Origin?

I remember when EA launched Origin, games you had purchased on Steam allowed you to reuse that Steam key on Origin.

Will this be the a reversed case for new game keys like Jedi Fallen Order?

For example if I bought a physical copy of Fallen Order that came with an Origin Key would that key be interchangeable and usable on Steam as well or not?

The reason I ask is buying this game physical is $60 for me, buying it digital is $90, and I'd prefer to have the game on Steam but the physical copy only advertises Origin.

    Hello there!

I can clarify that for you. Here is how that works:

    • If you purchase the game on Steam, can you also play it on Origin
    • If you purchase the game on Origin, you cannot play it on Steam
    • Physical edition codes can only be redeemed in Origin

Are you good to go with this? :-)

Does this mean that if I buy JEDI FALLEN ORDER on STEAM, then the game will also be available in the ORIGIN library?

  • Yes, but if you bought it on Steam, you get to run Bloatware Steam AND Bloatware Origin. Vs, Just Bloatware Origin.

  • Or another way to look at it is if Origin ever disappears you will no longer have access to the EA games you purchased only on Origin. Don't know about you but if I had to make a longevity guess between Steam and Origin I'd pick Steam. Having the game available in two places seems like a win in terms of knowing you'll still have the game. Plus I don't exactly trust EA to do the right thing if they decided to discontinue Origin.

And unfortunately if Origin does disappear, you'll not be able to run the Steam versions either as all modern titles on there are linked to EA's DRM.

Which, pardon my language, is quite seriously * up..

Why make it a one-way when you're already the lesser liked platform..
I bought Mass Effect Andromeda back when it was just on Origin and now I do have it on Steam thanks to EA Play, but I can not in any way get my BOUGHT copy on there bc they're just..

    not doing that.

    Just no.
