Haven't been able to get rank in awhile because of people leaving matches. Just doing dogfights and beating SP on ace difficulty.

Honestly- be happy if people leave and the match ain't scored. Getting paired with 4 morrons, thus switching roles just to prevent and ez enemy victory after 2 mins and being the only reason to make them at least struggle for 20 mins, yet losing MMR for the loss is even worse.
Yeah, leavers suck and should burn in gamer's hell forever, but stupid matchmaking mechanics are even worse.

Yeah I would like to see the mechanics improve in a wholesale way. There isn't one simple thing that would make the rank system better, unfortunately.
Specifically, the fix is not to simply score a 5v1 match, at least not the same way you score a 5v5 match. If anything the devs should figure out a way to give the solo player a huge buff to their score and dilute the team of 5's score to be almost nothing. But PVP is so unsatisfying at the moment that this would be one thing out of many that need to be addressed for it to feel fun and worthwhile.
