My personal opinion is, the playerbase isn't large enough for the Matchmaking system to pick players of the right level and rank to fight each other. So i think in the example you cited, the other team was a 5 stack group of friends. Your team on the other hand, where a bunch of randoms put together. Unfortunately, there wasn't another 5 stack queuing to pit that team against.
