Buyer beware: dyes that look completely different from the preview

Hi there, we all know that dyes from the Cartel Market can be pretty expensive. So, in order to get around that, you want to preview the dye on the right character with the right outfit to see what it does.

But what if that's still not enough? I recently bought a dye (Chrome Silver and Satin Silver) that, in the preview, looked like an oily/lead colour and I liked that.

When, in the outfitter I put it in the chest piece the view was the same as the preview in the outfitter, but when I looked at my actual character it was bright, shiny silver.

So, I didn't know this was going to be that much of a difference but when I contacted CS, they just said that because I consumed the dye, I couldn't get a refund. However, I feel that I should because it only became apparent after consuming it.

What does everybody else think about this? I just feel cheated. Not gonna cause a stink over 900 CC but it just doesn't sit well with me.

  • From what i gather this has something to do with lighting and the texture quality , so differences are also seen in cutscenes too as detailed below

They are aware and have been trying to resolve the underlying engine issue

Has been this since forever, when swtor made the highest texture quality ingame playing as the medium textures

    https://forums.swtor.com/topic/150316-official-high-resolution-textures-post-can-we-get-a-clarification-on-this/

When it comes to cinematic scenes, however, characters are rendered using the higher number of draw calls and maximum resolution textures. This is because in those scenes, we have control over exactly how many characters are rendered and can ensure that the game performs well. The transition between 'atlas textured' characters (out of cinematics) and 'maximum resolution' textures (in cinematics) is mostly hidden by the transition between those two states (when the screen goes black), but obviously it's clear if you pay close attention.

Yeah, I mean, I know there are differences between preview and "reality" a lot but this difference is almost night and day. I accept that small differences can happen but this much difference... And you can only see that once the dye is applied. So, for them to say, well you used it so no refund at the prices of their dyes is just really harsh imo.

Thanks for the explanation though. I wish though that their issues wouldn't cost me money lol
