An actual pvp mode in the game?

Is there ever going to be an actual Player vs Player game mode? Like you challenge someone who is currently online(or actually you get in a challenge and you're randomly given an opponent) and you both play the fight. Not the AI.
I mean it could be a different arena, not the normal one, but it would still be interesting. It's been about an year and a half since the game was released, I think it's about time we got something like this.

There are other games that have this style of battle(everyone taking a turn and then the opponent getting theirs) and they do have PvP battles, so it's not like it doesn't work. If anything it would allow people to think about newer strategies.
