Mace needs a boost, big time. Having anti-Sith abilities in there would be at least a step up from where he is now.
In any case, I agree with you. Some Jedi are better at fighting Sith than others, and most of the major Sith victories came by surprise and treachery. That should tell you why Sith fear the Jedi masters.
