Can someone please explain/clarify K2's zeta?

"K-2SO gains 1% Max Protection whenever he takes damage" Is this protection recovery? or is it just a stat modification if something else (ie Jyn's zeta) performs an actual protection recovery act...

Jyn lead helps both cassian and k2
Cassian benefits from being able to stack multiple exposes
K2 benefits from protection recovery.

Chirrut will keep healing them and giving out hots for protection recovery.
Baze for protecting chirrut and the whole team at the start.

A full R1 team can do well.
