Crit damage vs crit chance mods

Set-wise I feel like crit chance is far more flexible. And I kinda regret starring/gearing my Jawas to do the crit damage mod challenge, then farming quite a bit of crit damage mods.
Here's what I mean. There are four ideal variations to mod a full DPS crit-based character:
1. 1X crit chance set (+5% CC), 1X crit damage set with CD triangle (+66% CD)
2. 1X crit chance set with CC triangle (+17% CC), 1X crit damage set (+30% CD)
3. 3X crit chance set (+15% CC) with crit damage triangle (+36% CD)
4. 3X crit chance set with CC triangle (+27% CC)
So notice how #2 and #3 are virtually identical (2% CC vs 6% CD tradeoff is trivial) which means there are essentially 3 ways to mod a crit-based character: mostly CD, all CC, or a balance of the two. Mostly CD requires 4 crit damage mods. All CC/balanced requires 6 crit chance mods, each. That's 4:12 or a 1:3 ratio.
And I feel like mostly CD is not necessarily a great way to mod a character. I'd mod Aayla with all CC. Lando either all CC or balanced. Wiggs I'd go for balanced (because heal/TM for Wedge leader and crit damage up for Biggs basic). Only IG-86 I have modded with mostly CD on because of his passive and bonus crit on basic. Clone Sarge... Geo Soldier... Jyn... none of these characters would perform optimally with mostly CD mods.
Given that, I think that farming *all* the Jawas (JE and Nebit are useful though) is unnecessary unless you're a whale and want the roster depth for AAT raid. But for non-whales, Jedi for P1, droids for P2, Chirpatine for P3, and rebels for P4 are proven to be effective. Like I said I regret farming so many crit damage mods (3:1 CD to CC mod ratio when it should be 1:3). Thoughts anyone?
  • I'm not sure I agree @Synergy . Unless CC is serving a specific purpose for the toon (e.g. TM gain), you'll definitely want to give crit-based DPS toons 216% CD.

And even if CC is serving a purpose, you can easily get CC-level set bonuses through mod secondaries. There are no CD secondaries.

Farming lots of CD mods is very useful to get an optimal mod set-up, particularly as you need 4 to complete a set
  • I'm not saying there are no exceptions to this, but essentially my starting point for crit-based DPS toons is 216% CD unless their abilities suggest another set up would work better
  • Set bonuses generally take a back seat to secondary stats and primary for the right side mods. Wasn't the case at mod launch but they got nerfed almost to the point of not being relevant.

I spend by far the most amount of time in the game playing w mods trying to figure out the most optimized sets for toons without having to swap all the time.

You're right, I just did the math for my unmodded G11 Boba Fett level 85 and without leader ability, a 216% CD mod setup with a bit of crit chance gives 30% more overall damage, compared to a balanced CC/CD mod setup only giving about 25% more damage.
And Wiggs... well Biggs' 2-cooldown assist move gives over-the-top 75% extra crit which means a 216% CD setup might also make sense.
    No regrets anymore lol

Lol. Glad to be of service, sir
  • Seems this is solved, but you have to take their innate crit chance into account. Lando almost always crits enough to keep aoeing without added crit chance (and often outright 5 crits), so give him a little bit, but focus mostly on amping up his damage. Anakin needs a bit more CC imho to shine (and not expose himself). Wiggs mostly damage seems best.

Oh, and actually farming the mods is a PITA, so mostly just roll with what you have. CC mods are far easier, because 5 scoundrels vs farming jawas just for the mod challenge.
