Defense, is it worth it?

I'm curious if there is a thread, or if anyone has crunched the numbers on defense over protection or health. Is it worth using? I keep getting upper tier gold mods with lots of defense.

  • Defense is only really good on select characters, and even then you'd want defense sets, not primaries. Clones end up with massive amounts of bonus defense through unique and leader abilities. You could stack on top of that with a defense set, but don't waste primaries on it.

    A future character you might stack defense sets on will be zeta Stormtrooper. His 13% Defense per living Empire ally is so outdated. Cody's getting 60% per Clone ally. So I'm expecting his zeta to be something worth stacking defense mods on.
  • Figures... I've been trying to score a good crit chance up mod for weeks and I keep getting garbage defense on them.
  • I use defence x2 and health x1 sets on my Baze. The arrow mod is crit avoidance, circle is prot, cross tenacity and try to maximize def and health on secondaries (health is better than prot if you run Baze with Chirr). The end result, he can survive direct stacked assaults from a zader, tfp, fett and his health pops back up to 100% in short order. So yeah, defence is worth it on the right toons, everything has its place.

    Flat defense secondary is better than % defense sets
    5's gains about same armor /resistance with 17 in defense secondary as 5% from a set.
  • I'm not looking at the sets, I keep getting mods with a defense primary stat. I mean, a lot of mods, probably half of them are primary defense no matter which set I'm going for.

    Do you still have the armor number to percentage of damage reduction formula? I'd I'm not mistaken you cracked it right?


    I wonder if it is worth doing this in a few circumstances and to some characters...
  • Characters like tanks, Vader, Kylo, etc. benefit from defense mod sets if you don't have better. In other words, if you have the choice to give defense or say health mod sets with the same stats to Vader and Palp, It would probably be more beneficial to give the defense set to Vader because of his naturally high defense.

    fives is one of the highest defense characters in the game. Adding defense to him won't hurt and isn't a bad idea. He becomes very hard to kill. But again, it is really just a choice.
