I am f2p and get top five in arena everyday. I am 20 shards short of 5 star kanaan today. I don't have enough time by the 15th when Thrawn comes for anything close to 6 star.
So how is this enough time to farm them? Unless paying cash is now considered farming?
You're missing the fact that the event, presuming it is like every single other legendary event, will run for more than one day. So whether you can 6* him on the 15th is irrelevant. You're already admitting that you will, by the 15th, be able to unlock him at 5*. Plus, it's not a horrible thing to not be able to immediately go for 6* or 7* on the day the event releases -- it'll give some time for people to determine exactly what the minimum gear/mod requirements are for those tiers, so you don't have to spend more resources than absolutely necessary on the squad.
And I'm saying this as a f2p who has a solid shot of getting Thrawn at 7* by the end of the event. I have a full 5* team (and will get Hera to 6* today). I have enough currencies saved up to 7* Chopper, Kanan, and Zeb, plus some extra that can go to the shard shop. However, absent refreshing the stores, I won't have them at 7* until the 21st. I have 400k ally points that I can blow through if necessary for shard shop conversion. I also finish top 5 in arena, and am doing three cantina refreshes a day (did 5 a day during double drops). Like everything else it's about resource management -- I really have wanted to run an empire team (I missed out on Zader's run), so when Krennic went into the shard shop, I went heavy at him. When Nihilus was there, as much as I wanted to dump a lot into him, I controlled myself and saved up currencies again instead. It's likely going to pay off because to the extent that I need to supplement cantina farming with the shard shop I can."warmonkey;c-1126784" wrote:
So if Thrawn is a chaze killer and I just finally got chaze into my arena team a couple weeks ago after spending many months farming and gearing them then I have no chance in arena vs my competition. If I can't get top five I can't get enough crystals to do anything. If I can't do anything to compete then I have no reason to play.
I want to play this game but only thing keeping me here is social aspect and being able to compete in arena. I can't compete in raids being f2p vs whales and we don't set up silly guild rules that help me and hurt our whales ranks there. My ship shard is full of whales so will never compete there and GW is a joke. I only can play arena and if I am shut ouy of top five becauae the whales can't be moved anymore with a chaze killer then what is left? A new game mode in the future that is also for whales it appears?
First, you already are saying that you can't compete in raids, so arena is pretty much the end-all-be-all game mode for you. In that case, the difference between a 5*/6*/7* Thrawn is probably going to be pretty minimal. He has a solid protection base (26k), so the net effect on his health at different stars (26k at 7*, so probably over 20k at 5*), or damage, is not going to be a difference maker in arena. Thus, for arena purposes, being able to unlock him is mostly as good as being able to max him. Second, you presume he's a Chaze killer. There's no real evidence of this yet. Third, his kit appears to be something that (unsurprisingly) the AI can screw up. I don't think he's going to make an unbeatable team."SnakesOnAPlane;c-1126754" wrote:
For those who are able to pay, they have enough time to farm Phoenix to 5-7*. Some F2P may be able to get to 5* or further. That's what it means. Pretty cut and dry.
I pay some shackles here and there and won't get phoenix to five star because I'd have to pay more than I prefer. This event was handled poorly. You simply can't require a group whobhasnt even farmable until a week ago and expect people not to be upset"Shenanigans052;c-1127031" wrote:
I've not seen anyone claiming that. A lot, including myself, won't be able to unlock him without spending money.
If you played long enough before the phoenix event to complete all the tiers there (probably needed to be playing about 4-6 weeks beforehand), then your statement is false. If you even completed some of the tiers it's probably false. If you've been playing for fewer than 3 or 4 months, then you have to accept that you can't get everything (but there is still a solid chance to unlock anyway)."Indominable_J;c-1127052" wrote:

I completed all the tiers and have been playing for a long time now but by all means please continue to explain my own experiences to me. Sabine dropped 4 shards for me over 20+ battles during double drop, I'm expecting to only be able to get at MOST 10 more shards from her node before end of event (that's at a much better drop rate than what I've been getting), and would have to spend $30 in crystals to get her to 5 star through shipments. That doesn't include any possible refreshes to get the 10 shards from the node and refreshes to get her to show in shipments. Maybe ask a couple more questions before sticking your foot so far down your throat"Shenanigans052;c-1127123" wrote:

what if i told you that you don't need sabine at 5* to unlock thrawn at 5*? Would you feel a bit silly?- An unintended consequence of getting Phoenix ready for the Thrawn even has been how they are actually kind of fun to use ... Not saying they're anywhere close to OP in arena but they are actually kind of fun to play. I like all the assists etc.

And what special information do you have that says you will have to have Sabine at 5* to unlock Thrawn? Pretty much everything out there (including Kozi's meme) says 5 characters. There are 5 characters who aren't Sabine.- I agree Sabine isn't a must have to play the event if it only requires 5 characters ... however, she's definitely a heavy hitter that would make it much easier I would imagine (she's m primary go-to assist toon, along with Ezra whenever I can call one)

I don't disagree that she would help, but there's a world of difference between "it would be easier to have her" and "impossible to unlock without spending money" which is what the previous poster said."Indominable_J;c-1127140" wrote:

Yeah for sure, I don't think it's as dire/dramatic as what he suggested for sure. From a performance perspective (since I had Sabine maxed way before this Thrawn thing and Ezra close to it as well) I definitely think those two toons are the most useful and effective ones on the squad ... if I didn't have them in a good place I would have been owned by the event. I was able to three star the bonus tier even though Hera, Kanan and Zeb were kind of squisky .. thanks to those two.
But yea, it's not life and death not to have Sabine
