Will they ever implement this? The NPC battles tend to be no fun. I feel like they avoid this because people would start flooding forums and support with complaints of imbalance as people play far ...

Yeah there would be a turn timer for sure, maybe 10 seconds per character. Also, thousands of other games have real time pvp, so it's very much so possible.
I guess the Devs never discussed such a implementation? :(
