Free packs should not be considered "gambling"

*starts rant*

So, a few years ago EA made it so people from Belgium (and i am sure there are other countries with the same thing) wernt able to buy the shard packs for crystals anymore because of a law implemented in Belgium about gambling in games (the main problem was the packs in games like FIFA).

Did i like it? No, it's my money so i should be able to spend it how i deem fit. However it didnt bother me that much.

What does bother me now (and it has been an issue ever since) is that on the webstore i cant even get the FREE packs (like for ithano and quiggold now), or the daily free pack which has a chance of energy, etc... So basicly we are missing out on tons free of energy, gear, shards,...

I know this will probably fall onto deaf ears at CG/EA, but it would be nice if they would allow us to get the FREE packs. Afterall, it's not gambling when it's free, no?

Anyway, *rant over*.

  • There are ways around this restriction. Not sure if i'm allowed to mention this but it is Very Positive News (if you do not not what this is, look up the first letter of every word on google)

Btw, even if EA wants to change this they legally can't since it Belgian law that prevents it. But as i mentioned ways around this

Yeah i know there are ways around it, but thanks anyway 😀. However my point still stands, free packs should not be considered gambling 😅.

  • It's the same mechanism as gambling though. Same chances to get shards.

If you give someone a free token to use at a slot machine is that gambling?

If you discount a pack by 99.9% is that still gambling?

If you bet with skittles when playing poker instead of currency is that gambling?

The answer to all of these questions is yes. A free pack is also gambling.

With all that being said, buying crystals and using it on energy refreshes is also gambling using money and just spending energy is gambling for free. You spend 50 crystals to get roughly a 1/5 chance at one of these unaccelerated farm.

Free packs are not "gambling".  Gambling is paying a cost to receive a reward which may be greater or lesser than the cost, hence "the risk".  Free stuff is free stuff regardless of your RNG outcome.  If you are rolling the RNG on a free pack then you have sacrificed nothing but the click on the free pack.  The fact that CG used the same pack for a gift that they also use in the store is inconsequential.  You received something with added no risk or cost to you.

In essence, I'm agreeing with the OP.  I guess this should have been a reply to Jaines1's post about free packs still being classed as gambling.

You're kinda wright, however i think CG won't take any risks and will consider this gambling, i might be wrong but i think the law also states any form that could be considered as gambling inducing. As in this might make people buy these packs, which then it becomes gambling, so therefore its not allowed. Don't think we can put this one on CG, more so on the decision makers in Brussel

While this pack is free, the prize outcome isn't guaranteed, which is why it is considered gambling. The uncertain prize could also lead to a compulsory response where someone might try again but using money to get a desired outcome. But I don't actually think the latter is the reason it's gambling, just another idea. It would be nice if CG would offer other avenues for these freebies for people in these locations so that all players can benefit.
