No, on Wookiepedia he was considered to have contacted Dooku himself "behind the scenes" to bring the destruction of the Clones on Umbara to lose the battle. He was officially a Separatist. It also mentions, how he strongly implied in the episodes, how he was going to be Dooku's apprentice and learn the ways of the Sith. But since he never reached that point he never became one. So in the end, Krell was a Grey Jedi/Separatist/Dark Side. Much of what Dooku and somewhat Qui-Gon and Ahsoka underwent.
