GL value -not there

I'm farming LV myself right now, and I'm certainly not expecting it to be an unbeatable bulwark or IWIN button. LV will simply integrate into my roster and will give me more (powerful) options.

Spending doesn't mean you should be granted more advantage in this game, other than it speeds up the farming process compared to not spending. The existence of non-GL counters is healthy for the game as it adds diversity.

Also, I'm not free-to-play. Not a whale or kraken by any means, but I've spent where it suited me.

This is a quite narrow view on the value of a GL. This game is not only GAC. Sure, with GAC as the main crystal income, it gained significance. But having a GC also boost your game in other game modes, which shall not be neglected. Having six GLs definitely give you more for your bucks in this regard than four marquees and starkiller.

This I agree with. Given the time and effort to unlock, gear and relic a significant number of toons, to then have to spend another month+ grinding energy for unnecessary battles is frustrating. I probably would be OK with the character unlock but the ultimate unlock is a joke, especially the 2 battles for a portrait and surround you have to do before you even start the Ult grind.

Don’t put SEE on defense that’s my advice. Lord Vader is also nearly worthless on both offense and defense.

Just disagree, and yes, I use guides on a regular-basis. No GL R8 squad should ever lose to GL 12 squad of any composition, cost-wise that isn't logical and invalidates the supposed hierarchy/ progression.

Don't have a lot of time to devote this one, really posting a concern directly here as CS doesn't typically reply. For younger folks, without the experience of working a long career with finances, or related fields it's understandable some will justify money spent based only on their own experience, giving a limited view perhaps. More experienced will tend to take a closer look, when you get concerned is when you don't get a response at all, or if you do, the math doesn't make sense. Long-winded way of saying GL's are more expensive than they should be, CG needs to take a closer look at this, of they don't that is a strategic mistake.

Like I said, GLs are meant to give you a competitive edge, but they are not supposed to make you invincible in GAC.

And for sure they are not "cheap" in terms of time (and maybe real money if you are inpatient) invested. But going for a GL also requires you to level up many other characters as prerequisites, which are mostly helpful and not just simply useless.

And finally, there are the newer characters like Mara and KK, who slotted in the right teams, can take out GLs even with low stars and gears. But that's the way the game progresses. New metas come and go. And rest assured this is not CG with bad business strategy but actually part of their strategy to generate incentive for people chasing those new marquees (and with even more willingness to spend money than for a GL maybe).

Definitely need more info in regards to which game mode you are seeing your GL lose to lower geared teams. Also which GLs are you referencing? Some are just bad on defense and can be beat with some non GL teams though there are few left.

You mention GG for instance beating a GL. If the GL and team have low tenacity than the TM gains GG squads get by hitting target locked toons can cause them to run away on taking turns and decimate you.

Also as mentioned the build up of other toons to get a GL gives you solid squads in the process so I can't say the investment is wasted.

If you spent money to speed up the process that's on you since there is plenty of information out there regarding the usefulness and effectiveness of each GL both on the forums/reddit as well as YouTube.

Seems like you don't know the strengths and weaknesses of the GLs you have or how to use them properly. But without more information regarding which GLs specifically you are talking about we can't provide you with a proper response.

Also don't doubt the advantage a GL can give a new player who can beeline for one and achieve it in 6 months without spending any real money

But my squad has to be Relic as well, at the very least, one of two members (For example, Rey counter with Palp + Mara Jade)

It’s a cash grab pure and simple. There are so many hoops to jump through to get a GL it’s ridiculous. Gearing toons that won’t be used for the event is infuriating. I could understand say for the JKR unlock needing the old republic toons geared but it made sense but needing 12 -15 toons plus a ship is almost impossible to do without a credit card. Then when $$CG$$ double downed and required tickets for every single teir was the icing on the cake. But at least I have a permanent snack for the Rancor with my R5 Rose Tico.
