How did anyone think this era system was a good idea?

The title says it all, this is the worst update in a LONG time - and it was supposed to be a celebration... I'll be F2P until this is solved. There is literally nothing good about locking the even...

That's what I'm wondering. How did anyone think this would be a good idea that players would find fun and engaging? Either they're just liars or they're wildly out of touch with what actual players think is fun. (Maybe both?)

It’s awful. Really dislike it. Just seems like an annoyance task or money grab to really get anywhere. Def not a fan
