Personally I'm saving my Cantina energy for ship credits and spending all my GW tokens farming all the ships and finishing some characters as well. This is because they have announced a mode that will require you to use your entire ship and character roster.

We will likely see soon which option is better- shard shop or farming a larger roster for the new mode.
