This has been an argument since his release. The reason they did it was because of balance. They didn’t want him on a CLS team.
the same is true for Jedi Training Rey, or Rey (GL). They definitely should have a Jedi tag, but they didn’t want them to be teamed up with the powerful Jedi like JKR and others.

Probably better to give him a new republic tag at this point.
We need to figure out his full team at this point. With the era system being the way forward for new toons, I doubt we will see EU jedi for a while, but I think a good team would be from Solo kids, Corran Horn, Kyp Durron, etc - Relsis27 days agoNew Novice
They could modify his abilities through conditioning to balance it out so he can have the Rebel tag without making him overpowered.

He doesn't become a Jedi until a few minutes before Palp dies, the DeathStar2 blows up and the rebellion is, essentially, over, bc the Empire is over. The struggle goes on, but the Empire/Rebel frame disappeared within minutes of LS throwing his lightsaber on the floor and declaring himself a Jedi like his father before him.
Check out the timestamps in this clip: at 34 seconds he turns off his lightsaber. At 3:06 Palp dies. Most of the time between Luke is writhing on the canisters or the floor from force lightning.
He might have been a Jedi before Palp died, but from the time he became JKLS to the time the Empire was over was less than 3 minutes, it's all on screen, and he didn't do one second of fighting.
If JKLS is involved in a fight, you know for a fact it's after Palp died -- and with him, the Rebellion.
