Hi I keep stats on drop rates for most purple gear and character shards. Too early to post comprehensive results but I can tell you I just finished farming 20 of these.
It took me 104 attempts to collect all 20 which was 8 or 9 full energy refills between the hard and normal node.
They dropped as follows... 2,2,3,3,2,1,2,4,2
The last two came in my first three attempts of a new energy refill.

On average, purple gear is dropping at a rate of around 20% from what I've seen.

Yeah, it's a royal pain that they just seem to appear NOWHERE in the game. I farmed the 20 parts for Kylo in 3-5 days straight and told myself never to do that again. But alas, might have to do it for Ahsoka again, and definitely for Ima-Gun Di when he finally hits 6* or 7*.

Try doing it on a hard mode

One of them is a hard node, but I take your point, it does take a long time. They need to remove the three battle limit on hard nodes, maybe the node maxes out if you get 3 shards of the character instead.

I have noticed on the purple hair dryers (not sure the name at the moment) seems to be the more you have closer to the 50 you need the better the drop rate. Might just be in my head. But I believe it now to the point I'm not using them till I have close to another 50.

I thought the drop rate improved after I passed 40 too, that's part of the reason why I've been recording drop rates.
My guild members are assisting me by providing stats on their farming too, it will be interesting to see can any patterns be found.
I've personally done 150 of those hairdryers and 200 of those cuffs recently, and the drop rates we driving me nuts!

Yeah it is awful. I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed the improvement the closer to 50 you get. I thought it strange but seemed to be real. I noticed it was the same on the purple eyeballs too.
