Mods and non-linear damage calculations

I was playing around offense mods trying tweak EP to increase his damage for P3 when I noticed some really strange things.

To set up the test, I used one of the last few nodes of GW since they don't reseed the PRNG between attempts. Took a few toons and cranked their TM so they would go first, stripped them of mods and arranged a series of mods which only increased the offense % stat. They either only had offense % or protection, health, defense ect.

Ran two different days, a near maxed 85 EP and a 78 EP, two GW nodes each for a total of 4 separate runs.

So the test would be 0% offense, +0.25%, +5%, +1.0%....+8.0% ect.

The special dmg stat would increase linearly as you would expect.

The damage recorded however did not. This would be an example of the dmg profile:

100, 102, 104, 78, 81, 83, 86, 90

An example, increasing offense by +5.13% actually decreased damage by -4.1%.

At some point, it does pass the baseline. I stacked his original offense mod set with offense secondaries and it was a lot higher.

Changing the mods didn't affect the PRNG, dmg by toons after EP were identical regardless of what mods were added.

It wasn't due to randomizing the dmg output, dmg was linear after the drop off.

It was a case of 5 small steps forward, a huge jump backwards, 5 small steps forward.

Didn't see it with other special dmg toons nor physical damage.

I played around with the crit damage triangle a little and while most were linear, there were some huge anomalies, like a 3% increase in crit damage mod resulted in a whopping 50% increase in dmg and in another case a small increase resulted in a small decrease.

My tests weren't thorough enough to draw concrete conclusions but I would surmise:

-damage rating is only a label and not used in the actual calculations
-there is an individual component to the damage calculations which creates inconsistencies/errors
-calculations are buggy so you can't always assume bigger guarantees better

Another example is Wedge's damage decreases significantly if he gets by the Rancor, but only Wedge's.
