The Players Strike Back.
There are enough threads highlighting the bugs and exploits. This is not one of them. First of all, shame on all of you exploiters. Shame on you developers for not acting soon enough or even appropriately enough to compensate everyone fairly.
This is going to be a fairly long article, but the time spent reading and understanding, will save you a lot of money on crystal packs.
Today, as per the title, I would like to expose some of the tricks that are used in Turn Based Mobile Games. This are just theories formed based on what I know. I have no experience in playing any of such games prior to Galaxy of Heroes but I have noticed enough to know what to do and what not to do.
Background: I am businessman running 3 different companies with enough staff to form a guild(tempted as I may be, I need them to work so I can afford more crystal packs) I can spend USD10,000 and not break a sweat(I shall not need to attach my bank statements, you'll just have to trust me on this) I enjoy this game as it allows me time off IRL. I am PAY TO PLAY.
Back to point, I am writing this article with only one intention. To expose how the game uses our frustration and impatience to induce our crystal pack purchases.
FIRST TIP: READ AND RESEARCH
Most games are designed off the Min/Max theory, Minimum resources, to achieve maximum results. Hence I encourage players new and old to read and research first before pressing any buttons. Like real life, we have limited resources. This game is designed the same, we are given 24 hours a day to work to earn money and to enjoy. Similarly, cantina and energies are the same here. You can acquire more by buying refreshes(duh...!) So research first before you spend on that limited resource(energy)
SECOND TIP: MAX/MIN
Due to the limited resources, you must remember, this is Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, NOT POKEMON. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CATCH EM ALL! Achieve maximum results by minimising ur roster! 5 good toons, is better than 80 half built rubbish. I know several Free to Play ranking in the top 20, 10 and even 5. Find these JEDI MASTERS, LEARN FROM THEM!
THIRD TIP: RNG
RNG is a term I only recently learned, I started in March, it stands for "RANDOM" NUMBER GENERATOR. When you farm for gear or shards, when u complete raids and get rewards, shipments available, chromium packs and other booster packs are all determined by this "RANDOM" NUMBER GENERATOR. I am not sure how RANDOM this number is. I have no access to the developer files and such, but I have a feeling it is not that "RANDOM".
Case in point, I needed droid callers, and found 3 available in the shipments over a period of 2 days. As I did not have sufficient crystals to acquire them, I bought the 2800 crystal packs. After I bought two callers, I did my raids and ranked really high thinking perhaps I would finally get a scanner.... but NO, I got more droid caller parts.
On the other hand, A guild mate of mine{He buys 15k crystal packs twice a week) needs 5 or 6 droid callers, and when they announced it would be available in shipments, he was so excited, he waited and waited ...none... then he spent on refreshes, and still none.
I suspect, this shipments are probably "RANDOMLY" generated to deplete our crystals as much as possible before "RANDOMLY" generating a droid caller in shipments. This so called "RANDOM" NUMBER GENERATOR(again this is my theory) is perhaps programmed to track how much crystals we have, what we need and generates the items we do not need in shipments until it depletes a fair share of crystals first.
FOURTH TIP: DISTRACTION PACKS
The so called Rancor Booster Packs, Aurodium packs, droid packs etc etc.... they are all DISTRACTION PACKS. Again, you do not need to catch em all. The items from the packs are also "RNG'ed" . However the odds are too slim to make any of them worth while. Back to MAX/MIN, we are not playing pokemon, and we have limited resources, so don't allow for these packs to give us a toon that will distract us from THE GOAL.
FIFTH TIP: THE GOAL
ARENA. I wrote an article earlier on how and why ARENA RANKING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RANKING as it is the only way we can get crystals. I buy droid callers for free now. My arena rank never drops beyond 10th spot 22 hours after pay out. At payout I usually am 1,2 or 3rd. I do everything in my power to MAX/MIN on my ARENA SQUAD. Maximise my resources on Minimal toons(5 in this case). It can be done on any shard/server.
SIXTH TIP: PATIENCE AND FRUSTRATION
I realised that the only time I go crazy and pump crystals on refreshes is when I get frustrated and get destroyed by a droid team or rancor eats my rey or some "RNG" doesn't "RANDOMLY" give me that final shard to make FOTP 6 stars... The game is banking on my impatience and frustration to get me to spend on that refresh... PATIENCE! ANGER LEADS TO THE DARK SIDE!
Remember, enjoy the game, you do not get a NOBEL PEACE PRIZE for defeating the galactic empire etc etc....
