Tier 7 rancor strategy question

Is there a legitimate reason to only have 1 person attack phase 1. From what I have seen everywhere else, the damage rolls over and all calculated to the total value. Am I wrong? Just seems awkward to give 1 player the free 2.5 million in damage and not share it with anyone. Please help me understand the mechanics of this as we have done turn once and are starting a 3 time a week run.
  • One legitimate reason is if your guild is just barely able to beat it. P1 over damage does not carry over to the rest of the raid. Rotating among members who can solo helps.
  • I can't say it's a "normal" practice, but let me ask you a question: how many people in your guild can actually complete Phase 1? Now I'm not familiar with your guild and what level you guys are, but phase 1 requires certain specific toons to complete it. Normally, people that have the proper toons, should complete it. If this person is the only one in your guild to have them, then that would explain that.

Also another question would be: do you guys barely make it through the raid using all your rosters or do you dispatch Rancor easily and quickly? If the raid is easy, then I don't see any reason why only one person should be allowed to attack in p1...
  • We have 3-4 players that could probably solo p1. We did barely squeak by using all our rosters. With that said we took a month hiatus to star, level, and gear up. We also had some people that were not contributing so we cleaned house and got some more experienced Raiders.

Basically from what I understand, there is a mechanic that doesn't allow carryover of damage from p1 to p2, thus this means for the sake of the guild having 1 person solo it makes sense for overall productivity?
  • There is such a mechanic, in the sense that all damage done by all the players in p1 will stay in p1. No damage ever done in p1 will count towards p2. When you solo p1, and I can easily do that, it brings you into p2 and you start p2... Which means that from that moment, you're doing p2 damage. You could try to escape, but the chance to escape all your toons on the first try is slim...
  • If you guys are ok with the same player getting first place all the time, then this could be an "efficient" way to do things... But is it really necessary? Why not rotate?
  • As the person that cleared p1 the last time, I hope that is what we will do. I am an officer so I may be able to sway some of my fellow officers opinions. Thanks for all the information, nice to get help amongst all the complaining and things of the like.
  • My guild started with a similar strategy for T7 for about 15-20 raids. Rotating 2 people that would solo the P1, and having an assigned heavy hitter per fase, to help with the damage. The rotation was of about 5-10 members. Also if those members had an additional team they could use it in P2-4, but their main team had to go in an specific fase. We then had a free for all raid to test if we could finish it. Since we where able to finish the raid we started to do free for all after that. We now have a 24hour 0 damage rule and free for all after. The rancor now if we are lucky last 30 minutes with only less than half of the guild doing damage.

If people are complaining do a test free for all. Then they can decide to stay with that plan or not. Also any fase is solable with the right toon composition, just that fase 1 is easier since it requires less potency.
