What's the point in running a Dark (Empire) Team?

Is the devs intention that all the players should run a Light (rebel) team? I fell like the game is punishing me at every point for choosing to play a dark team (by the way I am the only one in my gui...

Once you have a rebel wiggs/sth/lando bases team you can get palp when the event comes round and build a good empire team. Just starting empire and skipping the rebel squad is a bit hard....
