Why no Windows Phone

With products like Xamarin out there, that allow for much more efficient coding between platforms, why are "next gen"/top of the line games by EA not coming out for the windows phone.

It's getting old, fast.

    The Betamax of smartphones.
  • I'm running the game on my BlackBerry Z10, it'll run 99% of Android apps plus it's way more secure though I think the BlackBerry OS is ultimately doomed.

Well, technically Windows Phone is just Windows Mobile re-branded, which was just Windows Pocket PC re-branded, which was "born" about 17 years ago. And while 5% is nothing to brag about, it is certainly enough that I am sure the OS will be around for at least another decade. Not sure if you can die before being born if you are 27 years old when you die?
  • Funny that we complain Windows isn't available yet in ALL of games, it RARELY comes up. This is the first post, and judging by replies / contributors its obvious the Windows mobile device is a VERY small niche.

Therefore like others have said it's NOT worth developing for less than 5% of the market. Go to ANY game site, I bet you won't find comments asking about Windows mobile there either, so no one is asking "where are games for Windows mobile" because no one cares..

I personally had Windows mobile (aka, Windows CE, pocket PC, et. al) for YEARS, it's not new, been around since the time of the Palm Pilot, remember that? Yeah didn't think so. So it's been a long time (1998). I finally got tired of waiting for what apparently will NEVER happen..

Yeah Windows mobile market is growing yea it will be here for years to come, but decision has ALREADY been made by developers its not worth a SMALL group of people to support, it's just not. Same reason commercial games are not on Linux either, Blizzard arguably the largest game developer in the world (not knocking EA) but THEY will not support Linux, why? Because the same reason, too fragmented and too small of a niche.. numbers will not add up.

Think about it, lets say there are 5 million windows mobile users. How many people play SWG on their phone? There are a lot of us, but I am the *ONLY* person I know personally (and I know a bunch of people with phones, I support 2000 people world wide) not a SINGLE person plays SWG..

so lets say that out of 93% of ALL phones in the world lets say 1 million people are playing, what is that 0.1%?

So 0.1% of 5 million is roughly 5,000 that MIGHT play the game.. and that's a really big IF. If EA had only 5,000 users they would be out of business..

So supporting such a small group of people which to individuals looks like a BIG number, to a company it's not. World of warcraft has over 7 million users.. playing on Windows and MAC but not Linux, when you have people willing to buy a platform to play their game.. it's quite clear they don't NEED to support the 5% that are left out.

Buy the device WHERE you can play the game.. Android or iOS, period. Windows Mobile users are simply few and far between.. a better question would be why can't we play SWG on Xbox, or PS.. or Windows desktop? those are pretty big.. again..

EA made the decision they wanted this game to be MOBILE apparently.. but NOT on Windows mobile or Blackberry, because you don't exist.. quite literally.

I think Zune had 5% of the digital media market at one point. Remember that? Where is it now?

It's chilling with the original iPod.
  • Windows mobile is fine as a phone. Just use the wifi hotspot and tether an ipad/nexus tablet to it.

I have had several Windows phones, and I love them. They do EVERYTHING I need them to do, as fast and as smooth (if not smoother) than Android phone that cost 20 times more. Fortunately, I've seldom found the desire/need to play these types of games on my small phone screen. That's why I have a Nexus 7. Now, if they did have a Universal Windows app (for desktop 10 and WP10) I would certainly take advantage of that, because I spend most of my time playing this game on my Nexus, multitasking in front of my PC anyhow.

    I just looked up the price of a Lumia 950. It's $598.99
According to you, an Android costs $11,960 (20x more).
Therefore, since it's been established that you're "somewhat less than honest", I'd suggest that no one believes a word you say.

Well the vertu sky blue android phone is 21500 Euros so technically he wasnt wrong.

Not having to tap "5" three times to type the letter "L" was nice at first, I agree.

Then Apple came out and ruined it all. Ruined it fast.
