I don’t need to look at them, because I’ve seen dozens and dozens of threads like this before.
In the old system, where GP was considered in GAC matchmaking, players were encouraged to suppress GP growth. People would leave characters at Level 1 and would hoard every single item of gear for a Galactic Legend before applying them in a GAC rest week so they had zero roster “bloat”. Players who didn’t suppress their roster growth were matched with leaner, more competitive rosters every single round and there was nothing they could do to “unbloat” their rosters. So yes, what we have now is better.
Prior to the current bracket your son had a 7-5 W-L record, so it looks like GAC is delivering good matchups overall for him.
Maybe you should look at the roster differences. Each match should be somewhat realistic in having a chance to win. The situation you describe as before is no different than what is happening now. 28relic v 125 relics, 4 GL v 0, multiple conquest units v 0, multiple omicrons v 0, and going against a roster that is 4x the size.
My sons roster isnt "lean" its a few mo ths worth of progress vs an established account. This isnt about an account that is bloated. You make zero logical sense. GP should absolutely be a factor, just not the sole factor.

I told you before - I’ve seen this sort of disparity, and much worse, dozens of times before.
There is a difference between the old system and the current system: have ALL of your son’s matchups been like this? No. In the old system 100s of players got matchups like this all the time, round after round. It’s not great that players making their first steps in GAC get handed the odd matchup like this, but I don’t think factoring GP into matchmaking would improve this situation for the wider community.

Why are you permanently defending CG? What the issue that they need to rework the matchmaking? The initial one was bad and the new one isn’t much better. Just think of poor devils that they squishing to krakens on top of K1. A rework of the matchmaking is way overdue but CG doesn’t care as this is on the bottom of the priority list as it doesn’t give them 💰 💰 💰 . It’s as simple as that.

I'm not defending CG. Just pointing out that the current matchmaking is better than what we had before and that we should not return to it - which you seem to agree with?

It does suck, this time. The question is how often does this happen? There is no "perfect" way to make every match completely fair. If they tried to match everyone on Skill level, GP, #of GLs (also which GLs), # of Legendary and Conquest characters (also which ones) and then factor in Mods, Total relic levels, Omicrons, Datacrons, Zetas, which characters you have at what levels and a hundred other variables, it would be a coding nightmare.
This is sort of the best way they have to do it. They good news is that a lot of those high GP players are there because they don't like playing GAC. They may only do a battle or two or not attack at all.

How often does it happen? His next opponent is the similar to the last. I dont thinknit would be a coding nightmare, you could simply have a margin of difference that's acceptable within each metric depending on how realistic it is.
If it was simply 1 of those factors that was unbalanced it might be still disadvantaged but competitive.
Having less than a 1/4 the size roster and a 1/5 the number of relics, and plus zeta, omicrons.... its not even remotely competitive

It isn't as simple as a margin of difference within each metric. First you have to define what is an acceptable difference for each metric, and which metrics do you consider? Also, what weight do you give to each metric?
For example, when I pull up my GAC bracket on swgoh.gg it lists a LOT of metrics. GP, zetas, omicrons, GLs, Relic Units, G12 units and that is just the summary. You also have to factor in relics, mods and datacrons. and there are a WHOLE lot of details in there. You and I could have the same number of 6 Pip mods, but I may have a lot more mods with higher speed stats.
Then there is that matter of which legendary characters do you have vs your opponent. Is it a fair fight if your characters are better, but you have trash ships and I have really good ships?
You will never have a "fair" match up every time.
The way it is is not perfect, but it is actually pretty good and far better than it used to be.
