It bothers me when people suggest that we should appreciate and be thankful for things that don't cost crystals. They would have very few customers at all if everything cost crystals. It's not them being nice, it's them hoping that the people they keep hooked with the free stuff will eventually want to buy stuff.
Also, to suggest that we should say thank you for them working so hard to put an event together is also bothersome. Nothing they have released in recent history, minus ships, is any different than anything else they have released since the game started. To suggest that they do anything but copy and paste previously used code snippets for any of this content is silly.
The op's frustration with the length of these events is valid.
